Anti-scurvy salad

More of a citrus onslaught than the one I made yesterday, but sadly I've already used up my 99c (!) box of strawberries.

Why is it that now that I'm living in a dorm, literally everything I eat is delicious and creative and can be found on The World's Healthiest Foods?

Amounts don't really matter for this, just make it to your tastes:

(1) saute a chopped onion until translucent, then add a few minced cloves of garlic, and then various sundries (diced grape tomatoes, chopped green onions, sliced crimini mushrooms, etc.)

(2) add about 2-3 t. cumin, 1-2 t. paprika, 1 t. salt and whatever else you want (many people lean more towards cumin/turmeric/nutritional yeast with their spices because it makes your tofu yellowy like eggs, but whatever, eggs are lame and I can't eat things that stain)

(3) mix it all up for a while then use a bit of water to unstick everything from the pan

(4) crumble in a package of drained firm/extra-firm tofu (I like to squish it through my fingers)

(5) cook for 8-15 mins, during which you can add some flava enhancers like lime juice and a bit of tamari or soy sauce, and then you are done!

7:21 pm - Curried split pea soup

Curried split pea soup
Originally uploaded by M.
In recent weeks, my cupboards have been too barren to make food! This is especially unfortunate because the weather around here has been so nice, which means I've been riding my bike every day, which means I've developed a killer appetite. I've been looking forward to cooking this soup for about a week. I think they used this recipe at Mondragon, because it tastes just like the phenomenal split pea soup I had there last year and have been dreaming about ever since...

Whole wheat penne rigate with homemade tomato sauce in the top; kiwifruit chunks and blueberries in the bottom, plus a container of Teddy Grahams. I put some sesame rice crackers in the lid.

I really enjoy having a garden.

Chickpea and potato curry with rice, and some red plum and orange slices. I'm a bit too lazy to strive for spectacular artistic presentation at the moment.

8:30 pm - Introduction
This is my journal of culinary endeavours, inspired hugely by [info]paperbagged, which was, in turn, apparently inspired by me! Feel free to add this journal to your friends list. I will eventually add you back, although the posts are all public, at least for now. I try to provide decent recipes here, but I am a lot like Susan in that I throw things in if they smell good and eye out measurements and hope that everything turns out edible.
